  • Description: A spectacular Germantown Eye Dazzler Blanket. No border on this 140-year-old blanket. Filled with double zig zag patterns, small diamonds above and below center prayer sticks, at bottom and top.
  • Rug Size: 74″ x 47″
  • Colors: Great colors, pink, green. maroon, gold, white and black.
  • Condition: Excellent

Sandpainting Mountainway Navajo Weaving People of the Myth or Mountain Gods 1129J

  • Colors: A natural tan, sand, white, black, and aniline dyed red, blue, yellow, gold, brown, and reddish brown.
  • Condition: Excellent

  • Description: Quote taken from Navajo Weavings Ceremonial Themes by Rebecca M. Valette and Jean-Paul Valette: “The design represents four People of the Myth or Mountain gods in quadrants formed by the sacred plants (corn, beans, squash, and tobacco) emerging from the central pool of water. The People are depicted in the four directional colors white (east), blue (south), yellow (west), and black (north). All except the east side is protected by a Rainbow Garland. On the open side are Guardian’s – an Otter and a Beaver.” See page 123 of the above book for a similar weaving; this one may be by the same weaver.
  • Details: Handspun yarn, the variegation in the natural tan sand is outstanding. Large Sandpainting’s are very rare, ones of this size are even rarer. In the Valette’s book most of the rugs larger than this one were woven by Hosteen Klah; see pages 126 and 129 to 133.
