Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial

If you happen to be in the Gallup, New Mexico area, we recommend checking out the Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial festival. In fact, it might be worth making a specific trip. It’s a five-day event (August 5-9, 2015) celebrating Native American culture. The event includes a rodeo, ceremonial dancing, a pow wow, arts and crafts, and more.

The Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial also hosts a Navajo rugs show with many different competitions and an overall winner. Cash prizes are paid to the winning weavers. This is one of the only events of its kind in the country, and therefore it attracts the very best of contemporary Navajo weavers. If you have an interest in modern Navajo weaving, this is one of the best places to see examples (and perhaps take home a few excellent pieces).

Happy travels!
