Historic American Indian Navajo Rugs For Sale

Crystal Trading Post Storm Pattern Or Two Grey Hills Storm Pattern Navajo Rug

SOLD

  • Number: 163
  • Description:

The excellent weave and natural colors are what lead us to judge the origin of this Navajo weaving as Two Grey Hills.

The design of this uncommon old example takes the Greek key border that is also seen at the next-door Crystal Trading Post. Many of the catalog designs from the Crystal Trading Post were borrowed by the Two Grey Hills and other trading posts.

Central to the Storm Pattern is a Maltese Cross in the middle of the very unusual rectangular center. The center has sides with a serrated outline. Bold diagonal corner motifs with protruding latch hooks help to fill the variegated dark to black field. At each end of the field are two sacred spruce tree motifs.
